A sports injury can be frustrating. One day you’re running, training, lifting, or playing normally; the next, pain, swelling, stiffness, or weakness is limiting what your body can do. And sometimes the pain improves, but the movement still doesn’t feel right.

Sports injuries may involve muscles, tendons, ligaments, joints, fascia, and surrounding nerves. Strains, sprains, repetitive-use injuries, and old injuries can all create different recovery patterns.

Traditional Chinese Medicine often describes injury as a disruption in the normal movement of Qi and Blood. After trauma, swelling, bruising, muscle guarding, and later scar tissue or persistent tightness may contribute to what TCM recognizes as stagnation.

Acupuncture for sports injuries is not only about reducing pain. Treatment may be used to help relax tight muscles, support circulation, improve comfortable range of motion, and support the body’s recovery process. Depending on the injury and stage of healing, cupping, gua sha, or acupressure may also be incorporated.

Recovery also means knowing when not to push. A recent injury requires a different approach from a problem that has persisted for months.

The goal is not simply to get through the pain. It is to help you move confidently again and return safely to the activities you enjoy.
